The best Paleros beaches (& how to reach them)
Renowned for its crystal-clear waters, the Ionian Sea hosts some of the most iconic Greek beaches. Choosing Paleros for your Greek holiday translates to easy access to the finest turquoise waters of Greece. And, apparently, exploring the area’s beaches is among the top things to enjoy in Palairos.
In this article, you will find the best Paleros beaches and how to reach them from Estia Ionian Villas.
The best Paleros beaches
Just a few kilometers out of Palairos, you can choose between six marvelous beaches. Here’s what you need to know about them.
Vathiavali Beach
If you’re searching for the most beautiful beach on the western coast of Greece, look no further: Vathiavali Beach is a hidden gem in a picturesque cove. Vathiavali Beach is one of the most well-known beaches near Paleros; it is a pebbled beach that comes with sunbeds and a small kiosk that sells beverages and snacks.
Accessing Vathiavali requires a small effort: you’ll have to leave your car on the main street and walk through a 5 minutes short path to the beach (sometimes it takes longer, as finding a car space might prove tricky). However, the effort is rewarding because you’ll discover a paradise on earth: crystal-clear waters and a few facilities that will make the trip worth it.
Apart from the sunbeds, the beach at its edges is protected by trees providing natural shade. So if you are in Paleros, make sure that you visit the Vathiavali Beach!
Potamaki Beach
Located just outside Paleros, Potamaki Beach is a stunning stretch of golden sand and shallow waters. Unlike Vathiavali, Potamaki is a really long and wide beach, busy but never crowded, and is very convenient to access by car: you can park next to the beach easily.
The beach bars at Potamaki Beach offer drinks and snacks, and the shallow waters make it an ideal option for families with kids.
Popular among the locals, Potamaki is a fantastic everyday swimming option for your Paleros holiday.
Varko Beach
Varko is a peaceful beach just a few kilometers away from Paleros. Bordering a hilly natural peninsula with dense plantations, it is a fine option for snorkeling. Varko has no beach bars or other facilities; therefore, I highly recommend packing provisions for the day (water, snacks, etc.) if you’re about to visit Varko Beach. Luckily, there are spots with natural shade, but bringing an umbrella or a beach tent is always a good idea. When the sun is at its peak, it might be good to have sunglasses and a hat handy.
Please keep in mind that you’ll have to walk down a beautiful path to reach Varko Beach unless you feel confident about your car or driving skills☺. Nothing particularly hard to do (though I once had my car got stuck in the gravel with no one around to assist).
In my opinion, if you like peace and quiet, Varko Beach is one of the finest beaches in western Greece.
Paliouria Beach
Paliouria Beach is a small pebbled beach that you can easily access by car. There are umbrellas and sunbeds and a beach bar. Needless to say, the beach has turquoise waters, great views, and a fantastic vibe. I’d say that Paliouria Beach is one of these Greek beaches that flies below the radar but is a great option for everyone: couples, families, and solo travelers in Paleros.
Agios Ioannis Beach
Agios Ioannis Beach is another great option for your Paleros beach holiday if you like peace and calm. Easily accessible by car, the beach took its name after the church of Agios Ioannis (stands for Saint John), which is located next to the beach.
There aren’t any beach bars around, so make sure to arrange your own provisions.
Estia Ionian Villas Beach
Last but not least, make sure you try the secluded beach of Estia Ionian Villas. It isn’t an organized beach (no bars nor lifeguards), but it has umbrellas & sunbeds, and a wooden circulation deck for the guests. The beach is accessible only through the villas and the yoga instructors next door, so it never gets crowded.
It offers spectacular sunset views and has shallow waters. If you enjoy some water activity, you can ask for a paddle board or canoes that are available on request for the guests of Estia Ionian Villas’ guests at no cost.
